During this time, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Honestly, any unfavorable time is an opening for distress.

I was having a conversation with my coworker just now, about my efforts to remain calm and at peace.

I was reminded of when the Lord spoke to me a few years ago when I was in a stressful state. Worried about what was to come and why things weren’t working out. At that time God spoke to me, if you are in distress then you are not at rest.

I believe that often distress is caused by trying to put more on your plate than you can handle. You are not trusting it in the hands of the one who is more capable, more qualified to carry on the things that are weighing you down.

I was explaining to my coworker that I do not believe this is the time to put more things on our plate in an effort to be more “effective”. Rather it is the time to evaluate our plates. Recognize the things that need to be removed in order for us to feel less weighed down. That is where the efficiency comes from. Not in being weighed down, but in being freed from excess.

The Holy Spirit gave me this revelation that I shared with my coworker; when you go to a fancy restaurant and pay one hundred dollars for a small serving, the meal isn’t more expensive because of how much is on the plate, but because of the quality within the plate.

That’s what I’m remembering in this time. To rest in the grace that God has gifted me. He has given me peace, and rest. I can lay all my burdens at his feet. I don’t have to carry the weight. I just have to lean on Him.
